We're glad you asked. The Muscle Shoals Songwriters Festival is proudly led by the Muscle Shoals Songwriters Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Here’s why the fee matters: 100% of the $45 submission fee directly supports our nonprofit initiatives, including our Chords For Change Program and our music education efforts. As a volunteer-run organization, every single dollar goes back to supporting songwriters and our community. In addition, songwriters selected through our application process receive complimentary tickets to both the Muscle Shoals Songwriters Festival and The Shoals Songwriter Workshop—an over $500 value! based on three key categories.
Composition
Song submissions will be evaluated based on composition, with a focus on lyrical structure and melody.
Originality
The uniqueness of the song’s concept and how effectively the song connects with the listener.
Authenticity
Whether the song feels genuine and true to the songwriter’s voice and message.
